Why Our Mats Are Better
Plastic-Free
Unlike most yoga mats, our mats contain no plastics, meaning they are not made from fossil fuels, they are not injection molded, they will not turn into microplastics, they are not toxic, they will never need to be returned or recycled, and do not need to be treated with additional chemicals to biodegrade.
Unrelenting Grip
Our design uses the grippiest cork surface and allows your fingers to sink in ever-so-slightly, further enhancing grip. Forget breaking in your plastic mat and leave your yoga towel at home. Sweat and moisture actually increase grip. Our mats have been tested by experienced yogis around the world to ensure they can perform.
No Forced Labor & No Deforestation
Many mats are made out of natural rubber. Unfortunately, a reliable rubber certification system does not yet exist. Given the documented track record of of forced labor and destruction of rain forest in the rubber industry, we do not use any rubber in our products.
Odorless
Yogis come in very close contact with their mats, with just about every part of their bodies. Most thought odor was just a consequence we had to accept of being well-bonded with one’s mat. But, we stumbled upon a happy coincidence that makes our mats nearly odorless. Cork and hemp both are anti-fungal and anti-microbial. Our community of Solajai testers has been doing hot yoga on our mats for nearly two years with only occasional soap-and-water wipe-downs and there is still no noticeable odor.
Vetted Factories
We designed and created our own products. This allowed us not only to create an innovative product, but gave us an opportunity to vet our own suppliers. Our founding team has spent 200+ hours working alongside our manufacturing partners in their factories, experiencing the same working conditions as the workers who make our mats.
Our Cork > Their Cork
We were disappointed with many of the other cork surface mats we tried. But, don’t confuse common laminated cork-surface mats with Solajai’s high-quality quilted cork mats. We have tested dozens of cork surfaces to zero in on the highest quality cork that maximizes grip, style, and durability.
Regenerative Crops
Each of the materials Solajai uses, down to the thread, is carefully chosen to ensure it minimizes the use of water, pesticides and herbicides, fertilizers, heavy equipment, and of land that would otherwise be undisturbed. We avoid water-intensive virgin cotton (even if it’s organic) and instead use cork, hemp, recycled cotton, and wool.
Lightweight
Our patent-pending design uses multiple layers of material in the right combination to maximize what every material does best. The result is a mat that is durable, well-cushioned, and grippy, while still being rollable and lightweight. In fact, our mats are about 40% lighter than similarly-cushioned rubber, PVC, or TPE mats.
